Trade rumors surrounding Eagles’ wide receiver AJ Brown are starting to pick up after going zero dark thirty after free agency. The San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas City Chiefs are names that are being linked to the Eagles as potential trade partners. While some of these teams are laced in speculation, the Kansas City Chiefs are a team that may actually jump into the fray to get Brown.
With the recent news of Chiefs’ wide receiver Rashee Rice violating his probation and now having to serve a 30-day jail sentence, the patience with Rice from the Chiefs’ front office could be wearing thin. NFL reporter Albert Breer stated that he believes the Chiefs “won’t look into trading for Eagles WR AJ Brown despite the Rashee Rice news”. If there’s one thing we do know, it’s that circumstances can change in the NFL.
To Trade Or Not To Trade
It’s been no secret this offseason that the Chiefs have been poking around to see if they can improve their wide receiving corps. And for good reason. The Chiefs receiver group consists of Rashee Rice as the top option, with Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton as the WR2 and WR3. The issue is that all of these receivers have had consistency issues over the last few seasons. Most of which stem from health issues. Rice was injured in 2024 with a torn ACL and then was suspended in 2025, forcing him to miss six games. Xavier Worthy was injured in Week 1 and missed three games, but was never really the same the rest of the way. Thornton’s role is often inconsistent, as evidenced by his production during the 2025 season.
Trading for A.J. Brown does make sense as it would add stability to the Chiefs’ receiving group. While Rice has shown that he can provide consistency while on the field, that is the main concern with his most recent probation violation. Rice doesn’t seem to understand the importance of staying out of trouble.
Brown, if traded to the Chiefs, would be installed as the top option for Patrick Mahomes, giving the Chiefs a big-bodied receiver that can be used in multiple areas of the football field. Not to mention a force in the red zone.
If the Chiefs were also out on Rice, it could allow them to dodge the looming contract bullet as well. Rice is due for a new contract extension from the team after this season. Should the Chiefs opt to move on from Rice, having Brown and Worthy as the top options makes more sense than not poking around and seeing if a trade can be had. Or at the very least, see what they can get from the Eagles for Rice.
And For Fantasy Football?
This would be one of the “best-case scenarios” for A.J. Brown. Brown would absorb a large share of targets as Patrick Mahomes’ new number one wide receiver. Once Rice returned from his suspension, he averaged nearly 10 targets per game. Imagine what Brown could do with that kind of target share? That’s a 26.5% target share among the Chiefs’ wide receivers last season. Over a 17-game season, that comes to 166 targets!
Brown was 18th in Yards Per Route Run last season with a 2.14 average, and averaged nearly 13 yards per reception during the 2025 season. That was in a depressed passing offense thanks to the combination of Jalen Hurts and Kevin Patullo. If A.J. Brown were to be traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, his ADP would surely improve from the WR11 it currently sits at. A pairing of Brown with Patrick Mahomes would improve both players’ fantasy stock for the 2026 season.
The Chiefs’ wide receivers combined for a total of 15 receiving touchdowns. Rashee Rice managed just five of those scores. Brown finished with seven touchdowns with the Eagles, ranking 11th among wide receivers. It is still a stretch for the Chiefs to get involved at this point, but the rumors persist. June 1st will be an eventful day if a trade goes down for whoever will be the victor of the A.J. Brown trade bonanza.
