Another week of injuries. Another week of finding replacements. It feels like the “injuries” are the theme of this fantasy football season, as managers are simply trying to survive with viable rosters from week to week. The wide receiver position took a hit this week with 49ers WR Mike Evans leaving the game against the Washington Commanders with an Achilles injury. While he didn’t suffer a major Achilles injury, he is expected to miss some time. On the other side, Washington lost Terry McLaurin to a season-ending knee injury, and Treylon Burks also got banged up and was forced out of the game.

As we enter another wave of waiver wire targets, fantasy managers should also check the waiver wire for players fellow league mates have dropped. Check those league transactions whenever possible. You may find players available for one reason or another that you can add to your roster. Do your due diligence.

Week 7 Waiver Wire Targets

Omar Cooper Jr., WR – NYJ

Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. returned from injured reserve and got right back to action in Week 6. Cooper played the entire game and saw a large target share against the New England Patriots. Cooper went 6 of 7 for 109 yards and a touchdown, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and targets. Adonia Mitchell is still dealing with a hand injury and hasn’t practiced. This means Cooper will be tasked with manning the wide receiver group alongside Garrett Wilson. Omar Cooper Jr. is rostered at 3% on ESPN fantasy.

Antonio Williams, WR – WAS

It’s “next man up” with the Washington Commanders. Terry McLaurin is done for the season after suffering a torn patellar tendon. McLaurin had to be carted off the field. Not long after, wide receiver Treylon Burks went down with an injury and had to leave the game. That leaves rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams as the healthiest receiver left next to Stefon Diggs. Rostered at just 5.3% on ESPN fantasy, Williams will likely see more playing time with the receiving depth for the Commanders taking a massive hit. The Commanders are on a bye week for Week 7, so now may be a good time to stash him while you have the chance.

Baker Mayfield, QB – TB

If you need a quarterback, the Bucs’ quarterback Baker Mayfield could be on the return this week. Mayfield suffered a thumb injury earlier in the season but is expected to practice this week and see if he can get back to throwing. If he can, Mayfield will likely try to get back in the field to play in Week 7. Mayfield wasn’t placed on injured reserve, so if he can prove he can hold the football and make passes, he should get his starting job back.

Komata Mumpfield, WR – LAR

With Davante Adams out for 6-10 weeks with a hamstring injury, the speculation is that the Rams will add a wide receiver via trade. But before the team addresses the need outside, there is a receiver currently on the roster that fantasy managers should take a look at. Komata Mumpfield exploded onto the scene back in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos when Puka Nacua was dealing with a groin injury. He finished the game with 19.3 fantasy points. With Adams out for an extended period of time, Mumpfield could see an expanded role in the Rams offense. He’s worth an add this week for those looking for a receiver.

Brandin Cooks, WR – SF

Brandin Cooks is another receiver who could see an expanded role with Mike Evans expected to miss time due to an Achilles injury. Cooks is still ramping up with the team after recently being picked up. But the 49ers are running out of receivers. Christian Kirk is expected to make his return from injured reserve, possibly allowing Kirk and Cooks to be the new tandem until Evans returns. Cooks is rostered in just 3% of ESPN leagues. At the very least, Cooks is worth a stash to see if his role will increase with Mike Evans out.
