It’s that time again. Time to surf the waiver wire for some options to plug some holes in the ol’ fantasy roster. The bye weeks are rolling in, with the New Orleans Saints and Houston Texans off for Week 8. That means guys like Chris Olave, Nico Collins, Juwan Johnson, and CJ Stroud are unavailable. A few teams are coming back from the Week 7 bye week, like the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills. This is also an opportunity to scour the wire for players who were dropped to waivers because of the bye. I personally picked up a couple of shares of Commanders wide receiver Antonio Williams before the end of Week 7. So if you got to stash him, you’re ahead of the curve. Plus, he was on the waiver report last week, so if you were reading, you already got the scoop.
Five Priority Waiver Wire Targets For Week 7
Omar Cooper Jr., WR – NYJ
Omar Cooper makes the list again this week after dropping another 100+ yard game in Week 7. Cooper dropping two 20+ fantasy-point games in a row should make him an even more appealing fantasy target off the waiver wire. Rostered at nearly 35%, Cooper looks to cement himself as the WR2 for the Jets. Adonai Mitchell returned from injury in Week 7, but wasn’t involved in the offense. Mitchell saw no targets in the game, while Cooper finished Week 7 with five targets. Cooper has seen 12 targets over the last two weeks. Grab Cooper if you can this week.
Jonah Coleman, RB – DEN
Everyone needs running back help this season, and it looks like there could be a shakeup coming in the Broncos’ backfield. Jonah Coleman returned to the field after missing time with an injury and seemingly took over the backfield. Coleman led the Broncos backfield with nine carries (for 54 yards) while J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey combined for 29 rushing yards. If this continues, Coleman will take the lead moving forward. There have also been trade rumors tying Dobbins to a possible trade. Both situations would be ideal for Jonah Coleman to ascend to the starting role for the Broncos for the rest of the season. Coleman is rostered in 21% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Seth McGowan, RB – IND
With trade rumors surrounding RB Jonathan Taylor, rookie RB Seth McGowan now gets some attention in the fantasy community. McGowan is rostered at just 4% on ESPN leagues and would become the new lead back for the Colts should Taylor be traded. McGowan ran the ball 11 times for 46 yards against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7. If you have the space on your bench to stash, it could be a fantasy move that pays off the closer we get to the NFL trade deadline.
Makai Lemon, WR – PHI
Makai Lemon got off to a slow start, but now he’s seeing more opportunities with Devonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks dealing with injuries. Lemon was solid against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7, finishing with 67 yards and a touchdown on eight targets (seven receptions). Lemon will continue to see more targets until Smith and Wicks return. There have also been murmurs that Devonta Smith could be shut down on IR for the rest of the season behind his hamstring injury and the fact that theEagles’ season could be over with all the injuries they have suffered. Should that be the case, Lemon becomes a staple with a steady am target share for fantasy managers. Lemon is rostered in 37% of ESPN leagues.
Caleb Douglas, WR – MIA
Caleb Douglas is another player who returned from injury in Week 7 and performed well. Douglas caught all three of his passes for big plays against the New York Jets. Douglas finished with 70 yards and a touchdown for the contest. The hope here is that Douglas sees more volume, even if it’s a minimal uptick in targets each week. Douglas is the Dolphins’ big-play option, so that gives the Dolphins and fantasy managers a player who will be used downfield. Douglas is rostered in just 10% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
