The Phinest Waiver Wire Adds – Week 5

Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds

I think we’re starting to hit the point in the season where the waiver wire is looking a little sparse. A lot of targets that have been on waiver articles have already been picked up and added to rosters or lineups. So what do we do when it gets like this? We have to go through the waiver wire with a fine-toothed comb for those gems. If you have FAAB remaining, this might be the time to target some guys and spend a little extra. It’s only going to get tighter from here.

But don’t fret too much. It’s important to also pay attention to the players that are being dropped in your fantasy leagues too. Fantasy managers will start having to make some tighter decisions to help get themselves out of ruts with a quarter of the fantasy season in the books. So when you check the waiver wire, check your leagues transactions and league feeds to see what players have been added back to waivers. There may be a guy or two that you didn’t expect to be there now back in the wild.

But while you do that, here are some other targets to check for this week on the waiver wire.

Waiver Wire Targets

*Roster percentages via NFL Fantasy

Tyler Boyd, WR – CIN (18.1% Rostered)

Tee Higgins is currently dealing with a fractured rib and while Higgins may believe he can tough it out, fantasy managers may not be able to take that risk. Tyler Boyd would be Cincinnati’s next option should Higgins ultimately be forced to sit and recover and would pair with starting wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. If that happens, more targets would be able to flow Boyd’s way with Higgins, and his 22.4% target share, on the sideline.

Jaleel McLaughlin, RB – DEN (0.5% Rostered)

Broncos running back Javonte Williams went down during Week 4’s game against the Chicago Bears with a hip flexor injury. While reports have stated that Williams avoided serious injury, there’s still the possibility of him missing time. Jaleel McLaughlin filled in admirably for Williams, rushing for 72 yards on just seven carries, adding another 32 yards on three targets and a touchdown. McLaughlin should be at the top of the waiver targets especially if Javonte Williams is out for a couple of weeks.

Michael Gallup, WR – DAL (6.6% Rostered)

Michael Gallup has shown up over the last two weeks of the season and fantasy managers should start to take notice. While Brandin Cooks was projected to be the number two wide receiver in Dallas during the offseason, it’s been Gallup who has the edge in targets between the two pass catchers. Gallup has also posted back-to-back games with 50+ receiving yards and more than five targets per game over that span. If Gallup can get more involved in the red zone, that would make Gallup even more appealing.

Michael Wilson, WR – AZ (0.4% Rostered)

Michael Wilson’s snaps and targets have been on the upswing since the start of the season. Heading into Week 5, Wilson broke out against the San Francisco 49ers with a 7/76/2 line against one of the top defenses in the league. Wilson is the biggest target for Josh Dobbs at the wide receiver position and could be useful if he continues to see red-zone targets.

Romeo Doubs, WR – GB (24.4% Rostered)

With fellow Packers wide receiver Christian Watson out with a hamstring injury to start the season, Doubs has been the top option for Jordan Love this season. Even with Watson back in the lineup in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions, Doubs still saw 13 targets on the night. Doubs is averaging 15.1 fantasy points per game and has already seen 33 targets heading into Week 5. Doubs should be rostered at a higher percentage than what he is. This is an oversight. Get on the ball fantasy managers.

Jake Ferguson, TE – DAL (9.9% Rostered)

Jake Ferguson is emerging as the top option for Dak Prescott in the Cowboys offense. Against the New England Patriots in Week 4, Ferg went 7 of 7 for 77 yards. Ferguson is currently ranked seventh in targets among tight ends heading into Week 5 and has an 18.5% target share which ranks him sixth. Ferguson should also continue to see more work in the red zone as the Cowboys continue to see what works under the 20. Ferguson leads the league in red zone targets among tight ends with 11.

Joshua Dobbs, QB – AZ (0.7% Rostered)

Dobbs is surprisingly having a solid fantasy season. Who saw that coming? Dobbs is currently ranked as the QB15 (word?) averaging 16.7 fantasy points per game and has had solid outings against two of the toughest defenses on the Cardinals’ schedule to date, putting up 18 fantasy points against the Dallas Cowboys and 26 fantasy points against the San Francisco 49ers. If you need a quarterback, especially in superflex leagues, this could be your guy.
