The Phinest Waiver Wire Adds – Week 8

Waiver Wire Targets Week 8

Week 8 is upon us and the waiver wire is calling out to fantasy managers once again! As always, if you aren’t making moves to improve your team, you aren’t trying to win. So a friendly reminder, make sure that you’re at least checking the wire each week to see if there’s a move that you need to make to improve your team. And believe me, I get it. Sometimes you have players that are just too valuable to drop. But that’s all the more reason to check waivers to see what’s out there. Sometimes players are pushed to drop a player that they normally wouldn’t consider. Whatever the case may be, it’s up to you to take advantage.

As we get closer to Week 8’s games, here are some players that you need to target this week off the waiver wire.

Week 8 Waiver Wire Targets

*Roster percentages via NFL Fantasy

Josh Downs, WR – IND (23.4% Rostered)

Downs has been having a solid streak going over three weeks with double-digit performances against the Titans, Jaguars, and Browns and topped 23.5 fantasy points in Week 7, finishing as the WR4. Downs is averaging a 75.8% snap share which ranks third among the Colts’ wide receivers but Downs is seeing a higher target share over the last three games than fellow wide receiver Alec Pierce at 6.7 targets per game to Pierce’s 3.6. If Downs continues to produce at this pace, he’s worth an add off the wire this week.

Kyler Murray, QB – AZ (28.3% Rostered)

Kyler Murray is already reportedly taking first-team reps in practice after a long recovery from his torn ACL last season. With more reports coming in that Murray may not be reinstated from the PUP list until Week 10, Murray could be a late-season stash for fantasy managers looking for a quarterback option. Murray would face off against the Falcons, Texans, Rams, and Steelers before the Cardinals’ Week 14 bye week. Murray would then return from the bye to take on the Niners, Bears, and Eagles in the fantasy playoffs.

Darrell Henderson, RB – LAR (8% Rostered)

Darrell Henderson was signed on the practice squad before Week 7 and then placed on the active roster, allowing him to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Henderson saw 18 attempts for 61 yards and a touchdown while adding another reception for 50 yards. Henderson reverted to the practice squad after the game but it was good to see Henderson lead the backfield in snaps over fellow running back Royce Freeman (39-29). Henderson will likely get another chance to be productive going forward with starter Kyren Williams landing on IR.

Dalton Kincaid, TE – BUF (39.8% Rostered)

With Dawson Knox slated to have surgery on his wrist and given an unknown timetable for his return, Dalton Kincaid looks to see a boost in snaps with Knox out. Kincaid caught all eight of his targets for 75 yards against the New England Patriots finishing four targets behind Stefon Diggs. With Knox out, Kincaid could see even more work in the red zone. Kincaid has just three targets heading into Week 8 in the red zone, a place where Knox (6) has been seeing more work.

Trey McBride, TE – AZ (0.2% Rostered)

Yet another player making the list due to an injury who will see an increase in work. Zach Ertz (quadriceps) now lands on the IR list and will miss the next four games making McBride the leading man for the Cardinals at the tight end position. McBride has been seeing equal snaps with Ertz but has seen 11 targets for 91 yards over the last two games. With Ertz now out of the way, more snaps and targets should be coming McBride’s way.

Emari Demercado, RB – AZ (6.9% Rostered)

First, he was a great pick, and next the Cardinals decided he wasn’t worth using allowing running back Keoantay Ingram the lead role in Week 6. Then they turned around and gave Demercado the lead role again in Week 7. ED rushed for 13 attempts for 58 yards and added four receptions for another 17 yards. Starter James Conner is still on the injured reserve for a few more games so more work for Demercado should be there moving forward.

Kareem Hunt, RB – CLE (40.1% Rostered)

Kareem Hunt is another player who’s going to see a bum in snaps now that Jerome Ford is dealing with an ankle injury that’s expected to knock him out of the next two games. Hunt and fellow running back Pierre Strong had a near split in snaps once Ford went down (19-23) but with expected to miss some time, more work could be in store for Kareem Hunt. Hunt isn’t a stranger to the team and should be ramping up for more work. Hunt has scored three touchdowns since returning to active duty and a game-winner against the Colts in Week 7.

Rashee Rice, WR – KC (34.2% Rostered)

Rashee Rice has been seeing significant work out of the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver group. Rice currently leads the Chiefs wide receivers in targets (36) with a 13.1% target share. Rice is also second on the team in snaps so he’s still seeing the field quite a bit. Rice has three touchdowns on the season and saw over 50 yards for the second time this season in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs spread the ball around but Rice is still the top dog out of the group minus Travis Kelce.

Roschon Johnson, RB – CHI (9.4% Rostered)

The Chicago Bears backfield is about to undergo another change with Roschon Johnson potentially making his way back to the field. Johnson missed the last two games due to a concussion but per head coach Matt Eberflus, Johnson has just one more hurdle to pass in order to get back on the field. In the meantime, Foreman handled the backfield duties for Week 7, finishing as the RB1 for Week 7 with 33 fantasy points. There could be a split/hot hand approach moving forward until Khalil Herbert returns from IR but for now, Johsnon is worth an add if you need help at running back.

Josh Palmer, WR – LAC (22.4% Rostered)

Palmer has seen his involvement in the Chargers’ offense spike with top wide receiver Mike Williams on injured reserve after tearing his ACL. Palmer had a breakout game in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs catching five of his seven targets for 133 yards and 18.3 fantasy points. That game allowed Palmer to finish as a top-10 fantasy wide receiver. Palmer has 36 targets on the season and is second on the Chargers in target share. Palmer should’ve been added at a higher roster share than 22.4%. Palmer needs to be added.
